The St Helens trails incorporating Flagstaff Hill and the Loila Tier are one of the newer additions to the Tassie MTB network with approximately ??km of trails with more planned. Once again green, blue and black riders are accommodated with the green loop from Flagstaff Hill really well constructed and providing opportunities for novice or nervous riders to have a go at tame versions of more advanced trail features. There is also a link trail from St Helens township to the trail network. You can climb to the top of the trails or shuttle on certain days with three descending trails leaving the highest point on Loila Tier and linking through other descending options on the way down. You certainly get exposed to rocky, gravelly riding conditions at St Helens but once you come to grips with how your traction works there is some exhilarating descending to be done with big jump options. For those riders chasing a decent pedal, the Dreaming Pools trail provides a 27km loop from the top with plenty of descending and climbing and if you link this with the ride to and from town you’ve got yourself a very decent all-day ride with the option for a swim in the dreaming pools.
